Step by step
It is possible to delete D drive...but make sure u backed up all files from D drive.....Install on C drive
Note: This guide is for those of you who are trying to install Windows XP on a clean machine. By installing Windows XP shown here, you will be deleting all existing files on your hard drive.
Why Windows XP?
Windows XP was released by Microsoft on October 25, 2001. Windows XP is by far Microsoft’s biggest success in desktop operating systems. The main features of Windows XP are

- Capacity to burn CDs.
- Hibernate Mode
- Average of 30 seconds boot time
- Application Compatibility (Run older Windows Apps)
- Security Enhancements (Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, etc.)
What do you need?
- A Windows XP CD
- 128MB of RAM (memory)
- 300MHz or higher processor
- At least 1.5 GB of hard drive space
- CD/DVD ROM drive
- A keyboard and mouse
- Video resolution of 800 X 600
Steps to install Windows XP

- Insert you Windows XP CD and restart your computer
- When the following prompt shows up press any key to begin

- Press any key to boot from the cd

- After few moments a Welcome to Setup screen should come up on your screen press ENTER

- Accept the Windows XP licensing agreement. After reading the agreement and and pressing the F8 key on your keyboard

- This page enables you to select the hard disk drive on which Windows XP will be installed. Once you complete this step, all data on your hard disk drive will be removed and cannot be recovered. It is extremely important that you have a recent backup copy of your files before continuing. When you have a backup copy, press D, and then press L when prompted. This deletes your existing data.
- Press ENTER to select Unpartitioned space, which appears by default.
- Press ENTER again to select Format the partition using the NTFS file system, which appears by default.
- After the setup begins you can wait for about 20- 30 minutes and return to your computer.
- Press ENTER to select Unpartitioned space, which appears by default.

- After Windows XP CD successfully transfers the data to your computer, the computer should restart and now you should be able to see the GUI on your computer monitor
- Enter your Name and Organization.
- On the Product key setup page type in your product key as shown in the back of your Windows XP cd.
- On the computer name and Administrator password page. Enter the information as needed. (It is important to enter the Administrator password. If you do enter a password please be sure to write down the password somewhere so in future you can always have it.
- On the Date and Time setting select the correct time zone
- Network Settings (Leave this to Typical seiings unless you know what you really are doing)
- After Windows XP CD successfully transfers the data to your computer, the computer should restart and now you should be able to see the GUI on your computer monitor
- On the Workgroup / Computer Domain page, change your Workgroup to a unique name and have that unique name for all the computers in your house or at work. This should help everyone to easily share documents and files to each other)
Setting Workgroup / Computer Domain is the last thing one needs in order to install Windows XP. The additional steps one can follow are Display , Firewall, Network, and Activation settings.
