How to connect PS2 AV cable to TV

Connecting PS2 to a TV with audio/video input (AV)

When you buy PlayStation 2, you'll be supplied with an AV Cable, which you use to link your PS2 to the TV.

  • Plug the colour-coded plugs at one end of the cable into the corresponding jacks on the TV (these are usually, but not always, at the front).
  • The Yellow cord should go in the yellow socket (video), the red into the red (right audio), and white to white (left audio). Note: If you have a mono TV, don't attach the red plug (If you're not sure if your TV's mono, or need more information about this, please refer to the PlayStation 2 instruction manual for further details)
  • Set your TV to the appropriate video input mode (AV channel) using your remote control (* See your TV set-up guide for more information).
  • Attach the AV Cable to the socket at the back of your PS2 labelled AV MULTI OUT.

Connecting to a TV with a Euro-AV connector using the Euro-AV connector plug

As well as the AV Cable, you'll also find a Euro-AV connector plug in your PlayStation 2 box. This is another essential bit of kit for hooking your PS2 up to your TV, and is used for connecting TVs that have a SCART socket.

  • Plug the colour-coded pins from your AV Cable into the corresponding sockets of the Euro-AV connector.
  • Slot the Euro-AV connector into the SCART socket on your TV (usually, but not always, at the back of your TV).

HDMI Cable

The HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) cable is the most common cable to use with HDTV and high-definition monitors. Not all original 360 consoles have an HDMI port.

  1. Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI port.
  2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input on your HDTV or monitor.
  3. Turn on your TV and console.

  • If you do not see the Xbox Dashboard when you turn on your TV and console, you might need to select the video input
  • The console automatically uses the default display settings. If you want to try to improve the video display, you can change the settings on the console.

Component HD AV Cable

The Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable comes with some Xbox 360 console bundles. It works with both high-definition and standard TVs and monitors.

Set the switch on the A/V connector to either TV or HDTV
  1. Set the switch on the A/V connector for your TV or monitor:
    • High definition: Set to HDTV.
    • Standard: Set to TV
    • Note Set the switch to HDTV only if your TV or monitor supports a screen resolution of 480p or higher.

4. Turn on the TV and console.

The Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable is not usually included in Xbox 360 console bundles. If your display requires this cable, you need to purchase it separately. If you already have the cable but your display does not have a VGA port, you can purchase an adapter.

  1. Connect the A/V connector on the VGA cable to the A/V port on the console.
  2. Connect the VGA connector on the VGA cable to the VGA port on your HDTV or monitor.
  3. Connect the left and right (white and red) audio connectors on the VGA cable to the audio port on the monitor.
  4. Turn on the TV and console.
